I am so happy to present this brand-new collection of jewellery made especially for Libre studio. Perfect for summer when the sun will illuminate the natural stones and serve as a playful accessory to your sun kissed skin.
The collection is made by the talented interior stylist Josefine Hedemann under the name Birds Jewellery. Josefine has a way with colours that is so appealing and inspiring to me. She makes it seem effortless to mix colours, textures, new and old in both her personal style, her work and of course her curation of beads. I’m so grateful for this chance to pick Josefine’s creative brain and get her tips on incorporating colours into your life.
LIBRE: I am assuming you have always been a creative human being both in childhood and as an adult (?) But how and when did you realise that you wanted to work creatively with interiors and what has your journey looked like?
JOSEFINE: Yes, I think I’ve always had a creative eye, even as a child. I remember rearranging my room constantly — swapping posters, draping fabrics over my lamps, collecting little objects that “felt right” together. But it wasn’t until my early twenties, when I was studying design, that I realised how much joy I found in creating spaces and atmospheres. That’s when interiors became not just a passion, but also a path.
Since then, my journey has been a mix of freelance styling, interior projects, and eventually founding my own creative studio. I also have a degree from Kea Design & Business i “Jewellery-design” where I learnt how to convey one's own design language through materials, colors and shapes. What ties it all together is a constant curiosity — how colour, shape, texture, and mood can influence how we feel in a space. Whether it’s someone’s home or a set for a shoot, I love helping bring out a personality in the details.
LIBRE: When I look at your work and your home (see Josefine's home in the March issue of Elle Magazine) I am so inspired by how you work with colours. The result is very natural and effortless. The colours speak so well together – they don’t steal the attention of the room and it never feels like a ‘circus’ even though there is a lot going on at the same time. Do you have any tips on how to incorporate colours into your home (or wardrobe) without it being too much?
JOSEFINE: Thank you! That really means a lot, because colour is such a big part of how I think and feel my way through a space. For me, it’s about layering. I often start with a base — something calm and grounding — and then add pops of colour in textiles, art, or objects. That way, nothing feels overpowering, and you can always shift things around depending on your mood.
Also, trust your instincts. You don’t need to follow trends or rules — just notice what colours you’re naturally drawn to. Maybe it’s a soft peach or a deep moss green. Then start slowly incorporating them into your surroundings. And mix in texture! A green in velvet looks completely different than green in glass or ceramic — that contrast keeps things playful, but never chaotic.
LIBRE: How did you come up with the idea for Birds Jewellery?
JOSEFINE: It honestly started as a creative side project. I’ve always loved working with my hands — and I’ve been collecting beads and vintage stones for years without a clear purpose. One day I started stringing them together, and it felt a bit like how I work with interiors: combining colour, texture, and balance to tell a story.
I didn’t overthink it at first — I just made pieces for myself and friends. But the response was so warm and positive, and soon it felt natural to grow it into something a bit more intentional. That’s how Birds was born.
LIBRE: What are your thoughts on the collection?
JOSEFINE: I’m really proud of it. I like how the collection is both light, colourful, and full of warmth. I wanted each piece to have that handmade feel, where you can see the human touch. All materials are vintage and they all carry their own story, which I think you can tell when you hold the jewellery in your hands. No two pieces are exactly alike, and I love that, it’s what makes them special.
Collaborating with Libre Studio gave me the perfect space to explore that more artistic side of jewellery. I hope the pieces bring joy and inspire people to play with colour, whether it’s through what they wear or how they live.
